Ghastly Mumbai attack scratched the surface again and exposed how establishment and leadership(?) reacts in the face of challenge.Politicians, actors, sportsmen and anyone who is someone is being summoned to express outrage at the ghastly act.Is that what we needed? That certain someone is outraged by the terrorist attacks?
This is emotional manupulation by those in power. Celebrities and leaders expressing 'outrage' and anger sounds like an effort to manupulate common man into "thinking" that their negative emotion of anxiety over lack of security is actually 'anger'. The message is that "express" it and move on!
Resignation by politicians is another posturing by government to give an impression that Government is taking 'action'. Though an acceptable politics in more mature democracies like UK, the intentions here sounded hollow, objective of which appeared more like posturing than an expression of alacrity on part of government.
History was repeated once again, when certain individual's bravity stood out in the face of system failure. Railway Protection Force personnel had old 303 rifles, and even not all of them had it because of the 'shortage' of such rifles. Nonetheless, Jullu Yadav, Head Constable, Railway Protection Force attacked terrorist at CST with 'borrowed' rifle. No time was spent in recognising Jullu Yadav's bravity and Railway Ministry promptly declared Rs 10 Lacs to him. To me this was more to highlight North Indian's contribution to city of Mumbai than to truely reward, rather unprofessional although admirable display of bravity by Jullu Yadav.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi’s expression of anxiety on public bashing of politicians highlight one thing: That politicians know now that soon they will have to supplement that their only skill of playing political games with substantial leadership.
I hope and wish that day comes soon!
