While the law of the land provides equality and liberty to men and women alike, our social structure does not seem to be in agreement. May be that makes our constitution too idealistic for the nation it is written for.
There is disparity on what role and status we want to assign to women across different strata of society according to age groups, economic status and location.
Younger people, people of higher income group and those living in larger cities in general tend to be more liberal, wanting same freedom of choice for women as for men. This group wants women to take same responsibilities in society matters and personal relationships as assigned to men.
Then there is other group who is not at peace with giving more liberty to women.
The question is how do we want to structure our men-women relationship? Do we want to continue to treat women as man's possession, as they are referred to as "samaan" or "maal" in informal lingo?
This treatment make women just that, a "liability" for men, who needs to be taken care of and protected by men. Man ends up being a watch dog, while woman, because of this treatment gets the leverage of being a "possession". This relieves her of much of the responsibility of how she conducts herself with respect to other members of the society.
I think the better treatment of women is what it used to be during glorious first millennium in India (0-1200 AD), when woman's social role was aligned with how nature intended them to be. A welcoming hostess, a loving mother, a cheerleader....
Like men, they need to be given freedom of how they dress and carry themselves and then take responsibility of their behavior.
Let every woman look beautiful, attractive and find a useful role for herself in her community, beyond being a mere "female body".
Do you envision any Duty to women?
ReplyDeleteCan you enlist such Duties?
Is there any law creating any duty to women?
Why not declare having sex with a woman is Crime?
Why have family system?
Why unleash this Corrupt police and Judiciary into harmonious bedrooms?
"Do you envision any Duty to women?
ReplyDeleteCan you enlist such Duties?"I like the words "carrying out roles well" better. When they are in a relationship, or part of a family or community they need to conduct themselves such that their conduct bolsters a stronger relationship, family or community. No one else has to establish her duties. She can decide her duties from her roles of being a Good Mother, Wife, Daughter, co-worker, neighbor etc.
"Is there any law creating any duty to women?"
Why not declare having sex with a woman is Crime?"Common! I am talking about readjusting social sanctions that could promote individual responsibilities rather constraints by laws (We are not cattle.)
"Why have family system?"Because that is good for us, children and elders alike!
"Why unleash this Corrupt police and Judiciary into harmonious bedrooms?"I am against moral policing. My whole point is readjusting social sanctions such that they promote individuals taking responsibility of their conduct.
